Nescafe coffee ad verdict: Something's certainly brewing here

Company: Nescafe

Ad Title: NESCAFÉ Cartoonist | #ItAllStarts

Story Line: A passionate cartoonist loses his job at a newspaper. He picks up a new idea and a fresh cup of coffee and gets his cartoons published in digital sphere and becomes a success.

Does the ad work: Yes, totally

Verdict: The story line picks a strip from daily life and gradually gives it a different take. We've seen people getting 'layed off' but how many of them dare of still follow their dream and become a success? Very rare. Most will queue up in front on rival companies seeking work. This guy brews an idea and gets going. This could very well be story of #digitalIndia or start up generation.

Airtel Ad featuring boss wife and subordinate husband fails. Here’s why

This advt is a paradigm of sorts.
While, its totally refreshing to see a scenario where a wife is a boss and husband is a subordinate – even if this is happening in an advt. In India, this scene is difficult to be replicated in reality because 99% Indian men would resign from their job as soon as their wife would take over as their boss!
The problem is not with this boss wife and subordinate husband plot.

The issue is that she delegates work, slings her bag and happily leaves for home.
- Are you guys promoting slogging in office?
- Are you guys saying that boss’s have a cushy life and subordinates have to slog because the boss says ‘karna hi padega’?
- The conversation between boss wife and subordinate husband shows a monotone – this is required, has to be done, I don’t care how.
Do you agree with us?

Watch the advt here and share your thoughts in comments section.

Is the age of ‘brand advertising’ really coming in?

Thankfully, some brands are going beyond just doing the campaign-based advertisements. We are talking about cutting away from the slew of usual advertisements that promote a certain product or its features, highlights a product line or is just certain theme. Such attempts, even if successful create a short time recall for a brand.
We saw Honda two wheelers ‘Honda is Honda’ ad which harped on the overall brand experience and Mecedes Benz AMG commercial is another in line. It may hint at a certain line of products but retains the magnanimity of the brand and its overall experience in the entire commercial.

Our verdict for Mecedes Benz AMG commercial – 4/5

It totally goes with the brand it stands for. Something less that this to describe AMG thingy at Mercedes Benz would look like a shoddy deal. The copy work is crisp and the flow of thought is logical. The visuals breathtaking.

Honda’s new ‘Honda is Honda’ commercial for two wheelers adds wigs to the brand

Honda doesn’t need any introduction in any market as such as such but when it came to the two wheelers segment in India, Honda did have a bit of an uncomfortable footing with other players – mostly local – who had a better recall and a better market share than them. As expected, the company has some serious measures to rake up its market share in the country and at the same time build the brand Honda in Indian two wheelers segment – this was sort of a necessity since Honda had earlier partnered with Hero group and now they want to establish themselves independently.

The new commercial featuring their mascot Akshay Kumar and a group of sky divers is creating ripples on the TV right now, it says a lot about the products (most product range appears in the commercial), the customer experience (you can see gleeful riders in the commercial) and the magnanimous brand that Honda is via the sky divers.

Our Verdict – 4/5

It wins hands down. Here’s a look at the commercial –
